Catherine Sykes - Vocalist

Hailing from Yorkshire, Catherine’s vocal talents were discovered by her music teacher mother who overheard her singing along to the radio behind her closed bedroom door.  She studied voice at the Leeds College of Music and since graduating has performed at venues such as the 100 Club, the 606 Club as well as travelling all over Europe with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra amongst others. More recently she enjoyed two months as resident Jazz singer in a 5 star Hotel in Penang, Malaysia.

Catherine’s first album ‘Signing In’ which she recorded with pianist Dave Newton was featured on Humphrey Lyttleton’s ‘Best of Jazz’ programme on Radio 2. She follows this up with her latest album ‘Something Wonderful’ and has just launched a new website: www.catherinesykes.com .

Catherine feels honoured to have been given the opportunity of singing with The Glenn Miller Orchestra. ‘I love what I do and it doesn’t get much better than singing with a good, swinging big band. Often, in the middle of a gig, I just stand and listen to the amazing musicians I’m working with and think how lucky I am to do this as a living. To be able to sing for my supper is truly a wonderful thing!’ It is true to say - we feel the same privilege about her singing!!!
